Chapter History

1989
Prof. Daryush Ila petitioned the Materials Research Society to grant a charter to Alabama A&M University to establish a chapter of the MRS. The MRS honored the request and the Alabama A&M University Chapter of the Materials Research Society was born.

The AAMU-MRS had Hemata Jena as its first president and the faculty advisors were (and still are) Prof. Daryush Ila and Prof. Lawrence Holland.

1991
Leslie Evelyn became the second chapter president.
We established a liason to the American Society of Materials.

1992
AAMU-MRS hosted the First North Alabama Materials Research Student Conference at Alabama A&M University.
We published the first issue of Materials Matters. The editor was, and still is, Eric K. Williams. We decided that the newsletter would be a quarterly publication.

1993
The editor of Materials Matters unilaterally decided to publish biannually.
We hosted the Second North Alabama Materials Research Student Conference at Alabama A&M University.
We established a liason to the Optical Society of America
.

1994
Materials Matters became an annual publication

1995
We're still trying to get our editor to publish another issue of Materials Matters before it becomes a biennial publication.

1998-2003
Editor and student support for the National MRS and for the Bulletin of MRS

2004
New Officers lead by Cydale Smith (New Journal in Progress)

2006
New Officers lead by Renato Minamisawa (Materials Matter Journal back on line)
