PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Research Assistant June 2001-May 2004

Center for Irradiation of Materials-Alabama A&M University, Normal Al-35762

Developed a technique to fabricate Ni-Co alloys from a vertical plating geometry. Refined the technique to obtain reduced stress deposits. Analyzed the resulting alloy by optical, nuclear and mechanical methods. The results were published on various conference proceedings. Took care of the design of the experiment and procurement.

Researched optical properties of silicon carbide using the instrumentation available at the Center for Irradiation of Materials. The results were published mainly in the proceedings of the MRS conferences.

Trained the graduate and undergraduate students at the Center for Irradiation of Materials to use the analytical instruments and interpret the results (OA, Raman, FTIR, PL).

Initiated and learned to use the RUMP simulation package for RBS and use it as a research aid; trained students and researchers at the Center for Irradiation of Materials to use it.

Researched ZnO nanostructures obtained by various methods: magnetron sputtering, low energy implantation, followed by post-implantation bombardment and annealing (in progress).

Collaborated with NASA researcher Dr. Shen Zhu on Raman measurements on carbon nanotubes. The result were published in journals and cited by various other research groups.

Traveled to Oak Ridge National Laboratory-SMAC group as a user of the EXTRION low energy implanter and the TANDEM Accelerator for ion implantation on silicon carbide.

Able to design and perform experiments involving following:

- Accelerated ion beam-based studies (RBS, Channeling, PIXE/PIGE, NRA) of materials

- Optics studies (Raman Spectroscopy, FTIR Spectroscopy, Optical Absorption Spectrophotometry, Photoluminiscence Spectroscopy) of materials

- Various techniques (Ion implantation, Ion beam assisted deposition, Sputtering, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, Fabry-Perot interferometry, current-voltage/capacity-voltage methods, Atomic Force Microscopy) for materials modification and characterization

Selected and procured lab equipment and supplies for different project and experiments.

Served as the President of the Alabama A&M University Chapter of the Materials Research Society from the Fall of 2001 until the Spring of 2003 and as Vice-President of the same Society until May 2004.

Teaching Assistant June 2000-June 2001

Physics Department-Alabama A&M University, Normal Al-35762

Research Assistant July 1996 – February 1999

National institute for Physics and Engineering – Horia Hulubei, Bucharest, ROMANIA

Performed research on optical, electrical and dosimetric properties of CdTe detectors for X and gamma radiation. Collaborated with the Cyclotron group on ion implantation experiments.

Attended a two weeks training in nuclear detectors, MRI and isotopes for medicine production, at the European School of Medical Physics in Oct.-Nov. 1998. The funding was secured by the CERN and ESMP.

1997, Summer – Visiting Scientist at the International Laboratory for Semiconductors and Solid State Electronics (LISES – Chişinău, Moldova) of the Moldavian Academy of Science, in an Inter-Academic Scientists Exchange Program with the Romanian Academy of Science and the National Institute for Physics and Nuclear Engineering, Bucharest, Romania

Research Assistant June-August 1995

Training stage at the TRIGA reactor in the Institute for Nuclear Physics, Pitesti, ROMANIA.

The experiments performed were TOF-neutrons: a collaborative research between the TRIGA group and the Material Science group in NIPNE, Bucharest.
